Knights Valley, the easternmost Sonoma County appellation, divides Sonoma and Napa Counties. Protected from direct Pacific Ocean influence, these mountain vineyards bring balmy afternoons and cool evenings providing the ideal environment for growing Bordeaux-style varietals, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon. The mountainous Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards have a commanding view of Knights Valley. The beige-yellow soils are of volcanic origin, and with their southwest exposure give naturally lower yields with smaller, more intense berries.
Harvested at full phenolic maturity and ripeness, our grapes are then chilled for up to five days prior to fermentation for softer tannins and color extraction. Following fermentation, the wines are then aged gracefully in our barrels in small separate lots prior to being blended to perfection in anticipation of bottling for your enjoyment.
“This Jackson Estates Grown Cabernet Sauvignon stands apart. With plenty of cassis, hints of espresso roast and dark cacao it offers a mid-palate lushness, opulent texture and elegantly balanced tannins.” – Randy Ullom,Winemaster

“From the steep Sonoma slopes of Mount St. Helena comes this tannic, concentrated young 100% Cabernet. Dramatic in structure and flavor, with massively packed blackberries, dark chocolate and pain grillé. The wine was aged in 49% new oak, which adds smoky, spice overtones…”

“The outstanding 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Jackson Hills from Jess Jackson’s holdings in Knight’s Valley is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 19 months in nearly all French oak (45% new). Its dense opaque purple color is followed by notes of spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, graphite and ink. Full-bodied and rich with moderately high tannins as well as tremendous concentration and length, it needs 2-3 years of cellaring and should keep for 15-20. Kendall-Jackson enjoys a well-deserved reputation for over-delivering quality vis à vis price for its wines.
