The season started off cool and rainy but the spring was one of the driest on record. Growers were initially predicting a very early harvest, however, because of the cooler summer it started just a little ahead of normal. A heat spell early in September kicked everyone into high gear as several varieties were ready to pick all at once, but just as quickly as the heat arrived, the temperatures dropped to well below normal and there was time to catch up. All in all, 2008 was as a low-yielding, yet high-quality vintage.
R Collection by Raymond reflects our winery’s deep roots and pioneering spirit in California winemaking with a diverse collection of wines showcasing California’s vineyard bounty. This wine is comprised primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petite Sirah. The majority of grapes come from the North and Central Coasts.
The 2008 R Collection Cabernet Sauvignon opens with lush aromas of rose petal and black licorice, combined with notes of rhubarb, plum and mature fruit. Flavors of dates, bread dough and walnuts make for a very full mouth feel. The wine finishes with hints of spicy elderberry and red fruits and a slight toasty character.
