Chardonnay continues its dominance as the preferred white wine for consumers. Keeping this in mind, we created our Reserve Chardonnay with the most superior winemaking craftsmanship. The 2009 Reserve Chardonnay is an exceptional example of what a Chardonnay should taste like.
Ironstone Vineyards produced its Reserve Chardonnay from grapes grown in our mountain vineyards located in the Sierra Foothills. These prime Chardonnay clusters are hand selected for their outstanding quality and then experience a gentle, whole-cluster pressing. The wine is aged “sur lie” in new French oak barrels that are hand stirred weekly for the initial four months of the aging process. This process causes the wine to undergo spontaneous malolactic fermentation.
In order to develop this wines’ complexity and full-bodied flavors, the casks are stored in underground wine caverns for twelve months where the temperature remains a constant 60° degrees Fahrenheit year-round. The 2009 Reserve Chardonnay is then bottle-aged for an additional four months prior to its release.
Wine Tasting Notes:
